Delete your data

You can permanently delete your Grocent account and the data attached to it yourself, from inside the app, in about a minute. This page shows you exactly how — and what to do if you can no longer sign in.

Before you start

Two things are worth knowing before you tap anything.

Deletion is permanent

There is no undo, no grace period and no way for us to restore a deleted account. If you only want a break from Grocent, you can simply sign out, or delete individual items instead.

Cancel a paid subscription first

Deleting your Grocent account does not cancel a Pro or Ultra subscription. Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google, not by us, and they keep renewing until you cancel them in your App Store or Google Play account. Please cancel your subscription before you delete your account — afterwards you will no longer have an account to cancel it from, only your store settings.

You will also be asked to sign in again as part of the deletion, with the same provider you originally used — Google, Facebook or Apple. That is a security step: it proves the person deleting the account is the person who owns it. Make sure you can still sign in to that provider before you begin.

Delete your account in the app

This is the fastest route and needs nothing from us. Open Grocent while signed in, and:

Profile A Alex [email protected] Household Owner Free Language English Household Home · 3 members Subscription Free DANGER ZONE Sign Out Delete Account Removes your data permanently 2 List Saved Frequent You 1
The Profile screen. Reach it with the You tab at the far right of the bottom bar. Scroll to the bottom, to the red Danger zone, and tap Delete Account ②.
Profile Delete Account? This will permanently delete your account and all associated data. This action cannot be undone. An active subscription is not cancelled. Cancel Confirm 3
The confirmation. Read it, then tap Confirm ③. Tapping Cancel — or anywhere outside the box — stops the deletion and changes nothing.

Illustrations of the app's screens. Your own screen will show your name, your household and your plan, and will follow the language you have chosen.

  1. Open the Profile screen

Tap You — the person icon at the far right of the bottom navigation bar. The same screen is also reachable from the Profile tile on the home dashboard.

  2. Scroll to Danger zone and tap Delete Account

It is the last item on the screen, in the card outlined in red, below Sign Out. It reads Delete Account — Removes your data permanently.

  3. Confirm

A dialog headed Delete Account? explains that the action cannot be undone. Tap Confirm to continue, or Cancel to back out.

  4. Sign in once more to prove it is you

Your provider's own sign-in sheet appears — the Google account picker, the Facebook login page, or the Sign in with Apple prompt. Complete it with the same account you use for Grocent.

This step is required by the security rules that protect every Grocent account: only someone who can sign in right now may destroy an account. Dismissing the sheet cancels the deletion harmlessly.

That's it. Deletion runs immediately. You will see Account deleted successfully and the app returns to the login screen. There is nothing further to do and no confirmation email to wait for — your account no longer exists.

If the deletion fails part-way — a lost connection, for instance — the app shows an error and your account is left intact. Simply try again, or write to [email protected] and we will finish it for you.

If you cannot sign in

Deleted the app already? Lost access to the Google, Facebook or Apple account you signed in with? Then delete your data by email instead — we will do it for you.

Email us to request deletion

Write to [email protected] with the subject Data deletion request, and include:

  • the email address of your Grocent account — the one belonging to the Google, Facebook or Apple account you signed in with;
  • which sign-in provider you used, if you remember;
  • a sentence confirming you want the account and its data permanently deleted.

Sending the request from the account's own email address is the simplest way to verify it is yours. If you cannot, we will need to verify your ownership another way before we delete anything — we will not delete an account on the word of someone who cannot show it is theirs, because that would be a way to attack other people's accounts.

We reply to every request and complete it within 30 days, usually much sooner. The result is identical to deleting from inside the app.

If you signed in with Apple and used Hide My Email, your account's address ends in @privaterelay.appleid.com. Mail sent from that relay address reaches us normally, so it works fine for a deletion request.

What is deleted, and what is kept

Deleting your account removes the following, permanently:

Your profile

Email address, display name, role and permissions, and language preference.

Your sign-in

Your Grocent credentials. With Apple, the Sign in with Apple token is revoked too, so Grocent disappears from your Apple ID settings.

Your membership

You are removed from your household and from its member list.

The household, if you were the last one in it

Its grocery list, saved lists, custom items and categories, purchase history and item photos all go with it.

What is not deleted

WhatWhy it stays
Shared household content, when other members remain Items, saved lists and photos you added belong to a list the other members are still using. Your account and your name are removed, but the list itself keeps working for them. If you were the Owner, ownership passes automatically to a remaining member so the household is never left without one.
Your subscription record (pseudonymous) Your plan is tracked under a pseudonymous identifier derived from your email address, not under your account, and that record is deliberately kept: it is what lets a paid plan survive a reinstall or an accidental deletion, and it is needed for tax and accounting. It holds no email, name or list content — only that identifier, tier, status and dates. If you want it erased too, email [email protected] and we will remove it once any legal retention period has passed.
Apple and Google purchase records Your store keeps its own record of what you bought, under its own privacy policy. We cannot delete data held by Apple or Google.
Records we must keep by law Transaction records retained for tax, accounting and audit obligations. These are financial records, not your list content.
Short-lived operational logs and backups Security and diagnostic logs held briefly by our providers, and rolling backups that cycle out over a short period. Neither is used to reconstruct a deleted account.

If you want shared content gone as well: ask the Household Owner to delete the items, or to delete the household outright, before you delete your account. Once you have left, you no longer have access to that list — and we cannot erase a shared list that other people are still relying on without their involvement. Write to us if you need help with a specific case.

Deleting some data, not your account

Deleting the whole account is often more than you need. Everything below can be done inside the app and leaves your account intact.

To removeDo this
A single grocery item Open the list, and delete the item. It disappears for the whole household.
A photo attached to an item Remove the photo from the item, or delete the item. The stored image file is deleted from our storage at the same time.
A saved list, custom item or custom category Delete it on the Saved screen, or in your household's custom items and categories.
Your purchase history suggestions Managed on the Frequent screen. The history is an aggregate per household and is capped at its 100 most relevant entries.
Your place in a household Leave the household from Profile → Household. Content you added stays with the list; if you were the last member, the household and all its content is deleted.
An entire household (Owners only) Profile → Household → Delete Household. This removes the list, saved lists, purchase history and photos for every member. It cannot be undone.
The app's local cache on your phone Uninstalling Grocent removes everything stored on the device — the image cache, your language preference and the offline product catalogue. It does not delete your account, which lives on the server.

Uninstalling is not deleting. Removing the app from your phone leaves your account, your household and your list exactly as they were — reinstalling and signing in brings it all back. To delete the account itself, use the steps above before you uninstall.

Cancelling a paid subscription

Grocent's Pro and Ultra plans are sold and billed by Apple and Google. We cannot cancel them for you, and deleting your account does not stop the billing — only your store can. Cancel there first.

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open Settings and tap your name at the top.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Select Grocent, then Cancel Subscription.

Apple's own guide is at support.apple.com.

Android

  1. Open the Google Play Store app.
  2. Tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
  3. Select Grocent, then Cancel subscription.

Or manage it at play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions.

Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep the paid features until the period you have already paid for runs out. Refunds are handled by Apple and Google under their own policies — see the Terms of Service.

Revoking Google, Facebook or Apple access

Grocent signs you in through Google, Facebook or Apple, and each of them keeps its own record that you connected the app. Deleting your Grocent account does not automatically clear that record — except with Apple, where we revoke the token for you as part of deletion.

To tidy it up yourself, at any time:

Revoking access at the provider does not delete your Grocent account on its own — it only stops that provider from letting the app sign you in. Delete the account first, then revoke.

How long deletion takes

RouteWhen your data is gone
Deleted in the app Immediately. Your profile and your account are removed as you confirm, and the app signs you out. There is no waiting period and no way to reverse it.
Requested by email Within 30 days of us verifying the request, and normally within a few days. We confirm by email when it is done.
Backups Rolling backups are overwritten on a short cycle, so a residual copy may persist briefly after deletion before being cycled out. It is not accessible from the app or used to restore anything.

Common questions

Can I get my account back after deleting it?

No. We keep no copy to restore from. Signing in again with the same Google, Facebook or Apple account creates a brand-new, empty Grocent account — same email address, none of the old data.

Will my household disappear for everyone else?

Not unless you were its last member. If others remain, the list continues untouched and, if you were the Owner, ownership passes to one of them automatically. Only Delete Household, performed by an Owner, removes a household that still has members in it.

I want a copy of my data before I delete it.

Ask us. Email [email protected] from your account's address and we will send you a copy of the personal information we hold in a structured, machine-readable format, free of charge, within 30 days. Request it before deleting — afterwards there is nothing left to export.

Does deleting my account cancel my subscription?

No. Cancel it in your store first. This is the single most common mistake, and the one that costs money.

Someone else added me to a household. Can I get out without deleting my account?

Yes — leave the household from Profile → Household. You keep your account, and you can join or create another household afterwards.

I deleted my account but Grocent still appears in my Google account.

That is Google's record of the connection, not a Grocent account. Remove it in your Google account permissions.

Can I ask you to delete only part of my data?

Yes. Most of it you can delete yourself — see Deleting some data, not your account. For anything you cannot reach, write to us and tell us specifically what you would like removed.
